Can a 2000 Jetta GL shift from Park to reverse?

My 2000 Jetta GL has a problem whereby, sometimes it will not shift from park. The vehicle has approx 125k kms. Is there a problem with my Jetta 20K?

I just recently was experiencing engine noise problems at 20k on my 2006 TDI Jetta, and the dealer just called me and said that the clutch was totally destroyed. The noise that I heard from the engine sounded more like a timing/misfiring problem and I was very surprised to hear anything about the clutch.

Are there transmission problems with the VW Jetta?

This is a common problem with the VW auto transmission. For the longest time, the dealer kept on saying that they could not replicate the problem. I was able to replicate the problem when I requested the service manager to ride with me, but all he said was for me to monitor it and wait for it to get worse.

Which is better VW Jetta 01J or 02j?

With the 02J five-speed manual being a much more reliable option than the four-speed 01M automatic offered in the ’99-’03 Jetta TDI’s, most enthusiasts row their own gears. However, as soon as the first nozzle upgrade is performed the OEM clutch can begin to slip.

What causes a jerky shift on a Jetta?

You could be waiting too long between shifts, allowing the engine revs to drop down to idle. both these habits would cause a jerky kind of shift. See if you can get a volunteer to shift your car better than you can. If nobody can do that, they maybe it’s not you. I have a 2006 Jetta with automatic transmission that shifts very roughly from 1-2.
