So we called in the RAC who said it was probably the motor, he released it via the manual handbrake release. The handbrake will not engage now and lights and beeping still happen. I have taken it to an independant garage as renault wanted £50 just to diagnose the problem.

Why does hand brake not go on Blink?

The easy suspects here are the fluid level and the handbrake switch. If there is a strainer in the neck of the reservoir you can be fooled as to the actual level and hand brake switches seldom go on the blink but worth checking.
