Why is my p0171 system Lean code not working?
Change the plugs and oil about a month and a half ago and got a maf sensor error and get a P0171 system lean code after resetting the ECU. I’ve been troubleshooting since then but can’t seem to get the P0171 ironed out. The cel only pops at idle and the car runs great through the power band. Here’s what I’ve already done.
What to do if you get your p0171 again?
Swap MAF’s with a local (and friendly) WRX buddy, reset your ECU and drive for a day or two. If you get your P0171 again, the MAF was not it. If you go CEL free, and even better, if the OTHER person gets a P0171, then you found your culprit. Either clean the old MAF or shell out the cash for a new one.
How does the O2 work on a p0171?
His o2 looked “worn” but not bad by any means. His experience with the P0171 basically had the car run fine for the first 10-15 miles until N.O.T. Then, after power cycling (shut off car for a minute, turn it back on) and driving at a constant highway cruise for a few minutes, the CEL would come back on.
Why does my WRX have a lean condition?
As anybody with half a search function will find, many CAI’s for the WRX will cause a lean condition due in part to either relocation of the MAF, a differently sized diameter of piping, or purely increased flow of air which is not correctly compensated for.

Why does my Subaru cel pop at idle?
The cel only pops at idle and the car runs great through the power band. Here’s what I’ve already done. Me and Todd swapped front O2 sensors, maf and dug everywhere for vacuum and exhaust leaks and found nothing. Had Jake check the tune and everything looked alright.
Is there a front O2 leak on a Subaru?
Lonnie I have to say you’re a very thoughtful seller, most would just play dumb or disable the code to sell it. If the front O2 is known good, it almost has to be a vacuum leak. Have you hooked up a vacuum gauge to actually see what it’s pulling at idle?
