Why is my 2 stroke outboard idling high?

Why is my 2 stroke outboard idling high?

This can happen if your throttle cable is incorrectly adjusted, improperly routed or not seated correctly in the cable adjusters at either the throttle or carb ends. Check those and make sure you have some free play in the throttle.

How do you adjust the throttle on a Yamaha outboard?

Throttle Adjustment

  1. Loosen the throttle cable adjuster jam-nut with the wrenches. Extend or contract the adjuster until the cable moves the throttle to the idle position.
  2. Push the control lever forward to the “Forward idle” position.
  3. Pull the control lever back, through neutral, into the reverse idle position.

Why does my 2 stroke rev up when I start it?

The reason your two-stroke ‘loads up’ is because not all of the gas gets burned through the cylinder, so it just sits in the crankcase. When there’s too much fuel going through the cylinder at the same time, the spark plug cannot burn all of it, thus resulting in a fouled plug.

How do you adjust throttle friction?

Adjust the throttle friction with the adjustment screw that’s typically below the throttle on the tiller. Set it until you feel a slight drag on the handle when accelerating or decelerating. Clockwise increases friction, and counterclockwise decreases it.

How do you adjust the idle on a Johnson 115?

Locate the spark plug lead underneath the panel near the ignition. Attach the tachometer to the lead. Wait for the Johnson outboard to automatically drop into low idle. The engine will make noticeably less noise when this happens.

What is throttle friction adjustment?

Throttle friction is exactly what it means. Tighten the knob and it increases the amount of force it takes to move the throttle. Loosen it too far and the throttle won’t stay where you have it set — in other words it will creep back toward slow/neutral.

What’s the idle setting on a Yamaha 115?

Later manuals for the 115 leaves this step out. Reason being the idle mixture screws have tamper resistant plugs in them. Here is the later version of the idle adjustment procedure. Just follow this, make the setting to the low end (750 minus 50 = 700) and you should be good to go.

How to adjust the idle speed on a Yamaha?

When it comes to adjusting the engine idle speed the Yam manual says to first adjust the engine timing. Then adjust the carburetor synchronization. Then set the engine idle speed. No mention is made of messing with the fuel/air ratio. Last edited by boscoe99; 01-21-2016, 11:05 AM .
