Harvest Moon is a new series with an old name, while Story of Seasons is an old series with a new name. Essentially, a business decision caused a divide that renamed the old Harvest Moon games to Story of Seasons. Natsume, still wanting to make farming games, decided to keep using the game to make their own series.
