But in essence, it is a single brake switch (there are two switches on the harness, but we are talking about the one on the left when there’s a starting problem).

Try pushing the connector into the switch then press the tab. It should slide out easily. Once the wire is off, turn the brake switch counterclockwise until it pops out of the mount. After you rotate the plug, the spring in the button will push it up. You should see something similar to this picture.
