Why did my Ski Doo MXZ 500 die?

I have a 1999 Ski-Doo MXZ 500 that has 2500 miles on it, and is all stock. I was riding it tonight (about 10 degrees F) and after about 25 miles of super smooth running, it started to lose power + eventually died on me, as if it was too hot and siezed.

Pulled the plugs, and the PTO side was brown, the MAG side was a lot cleaner and shiny metal coloered. At idle the engine seems a bit more clattery than it was yesterday too.
