Which is better 10 speed or 13 speed transmission?

Which is better 10 speed or 13 speed transmission?

A 10 properly set up will get every bit as good of fuel mileage and pull as fast as a 13. We have both and very seldom split the top side on 13’s. New 13’s usually have a shorter warranty than 10’s do. Depending on the engine, etc, I sure wouldn’t worry about a 10 speed.

Can you shift a 9 speed to a 13 speed?

You can shift a 13 speed just like a straight 9 speed, 400 rpm split on the top side. The only differance is, if you use the splitter on the top gears, instead of having a 400 rpm split it will have 200.

What kind of transmission is a 13 speed?

The 13 speed, like almost every truck transmission, is based on the standard 5 speed pattern like is used in a typical Honda or any other car. You merely use and reuse the gears as you go along in a pattern. On the shift lever of the 13 speed, you will find 2 buttons vice the single flip up button that is common on a 10 speed transmission.

How to shift 13 speed tractor trailer transmission?

This video explains how to shift the eaton fuller 13 speed transmission. The shift pattern is identical to the 9 speed pattern, however when in the high range you have the ability to split the gears into a low and high range. This is a very simple video. As soon as I come across another 9sp I will post a video showing the similarities. Loading…

Good afternoon all, leaving to Joplin on Sat. to start training with CFI and have never driven a 13 speed trany before, heck have never even seen a 13 speed trany (new CDL grad.) How much different is it than a straight 10 speed??? hard to pick up???? no i dont mean the weight!!!!!! thanks all.

What is a 13 speed transmission?

Trucks using 13-speed transmissions allow certain gears to have high and low settings, so you’ll use the same gear position more than once after pushing a button to change the setting. With a 13-speed transmission, the gears are closer together than in a 10-speed transmission, for example.

Can you shift a 10 speed to 13 speed?

You can actually drive it much like you do a regular ten speed. The major difference is that there is a second splitter on the thumb side of your shifter that will allow you to split those higher gears if needed so that there is not such a momentum grabbing gap in the way the RPMs drop off in between gears.

Whats better 13 or 18 speed?

A 13 speed has a splitter function which is only active in the high range. You could call it 6a, 6b, 7a 7b etc. An 18 speed also allows you to split the 5 lower gears giving you the original 9 gears times 2. You would very rarely use all 18 gears in every day usage.

What is a Super 10 transmission?

The Super 10 is a VERY easy transmission to learn and many drivers refer to it as the “lazy man’s” transmission. The transmission was designed for ease of shifting and newbies do well with it because the Super 10 eliminates a lot of shifts that require moving the gearshift from one gear to another!

Can a 13 speed be converted to 18 speed?

You can put a 18 speed button in a 13 and it will shift like an 18 but it wont last long.

Why is it called 18 speed?

Now how you get an 18-speed is that you can split all the gears on the bottom and all the gears on the top so you get 10 gears on the bottom and eight gears on the top, which gives you an 18-speed. Now an 18-speed is a glorified 13-speed.

What kind of transmission does Swift Transportation use?

Swift Transportation began their auto-shift transition for company trucks about 3 years ago. I believe L/O’s can optionally order a manual. Any company truck tractor purchased beyond the 2nd quarter of 2015 was configured with a 12 speed auto-shift transmission.

What’s the difference between 8 speed and 10 speed transmission?

With a wide ratio spread engineered with practicality in mind, the 10-speed transmission offers a modest 20% drop in RPM while shifting. When compared to the 25% drop seen in ZF eight-speeds, this is impressive, as it maintains close-to-peak power during full-throttle acceleration.

Can a swift CDL be used in auto mode?

Swift enables “manual mode” allowing the driver to select and hold a specific gear. Highly relevant for safe operation on slick roads and highways. As far as I know the Swift Academies are still teaching on 8 and/or 10 speed manual transmissions. That said, as a result, at least for the moment there will not be an “auto” restriction on the CDL.

How many gears does a 15 speed transmission have?

And the best way to explain deep reduction on a 15-speed is that essentially you’ve got three tiers of five gears. Five gears way down in the basement, five gears on the main level, and five gears upstairs. Most of the time you’re going to drive a 15-speed like a ten-speed.
