When should you submit PhD applications?
Applying for an academic program that can take, on average, 6-8 years to complete, cannot be done adequately in 6-8 days. Allow yourself the greatest potential for completing a quality application by starting early. Most application deadlines tend to be in the fall before you start the program.

Students in the Economics PhD program at Emory typically receive full funding for five years through the Laney Graduate School. The Laney Graduate School’s standard offer of admission includes: Stipend in the amount of $31,775 per year for five years as long as a student makes good academic progress.
What happens after you submit PhD application?
Each application the graduate school receives will be sent to the department and within the department. Some schools that offer rolling admission, applications will be reviewed immediately as they come. Other schools will wait ’till the deadline had elapsed and will review all the applications together.
