What kind of coolant does a BMW K75 use?
The BMW coolant is specifically made for the water pump seals and aluminum block of your K bike. While it is a bit more expensive, one gallon will last 2 changes. For the K75 the recommended mix is 40/60, though a lot of people just do 50/50 – check to see what is right for your bike. Check with dealer for correct application for your bike
What was the problem with my BMW K75?
In early 2000 I had a problem where the bike would hardly run except at idle or wide-open throttle. Turned out to be a loose hose clamp causing an air leak between the air filter housing and the airbox. Now, after 150k miles, there is a lot of oil seepage on the front and bottom of the engine.
What to do with a BMW K75 in the winter?
On the K75 Standard, the backs of my hands got really cold during the winter, because the mirrors deflected the air down onto them. Heated grips warm the inside of the hand wonderfully but don’t affect the outside very much. Heated grips and heated gloves are the best winter combination, especially on an open bike.

Turned out to be a loose hose clamp causing an air leak between the air filter housing and the airbox. Now, after 150k miles, there is a lot of oil seepage on the front and bottom of the engine. It’s probably just the timing cover but it might be the head gasket.

Can a BMW K bike over heat in hot weather?
The BMW Classic K bikes do not have a large reserve for cooling the engine, this is particularly noticeable in hot weather. BMW installed a more efficient radiator in late 1992 on the K bikes, but using a wrong coolant can still ‘plate’ your cooling system, badly too, and result in easy over-heating in hot weather.
Where is the mating plug on a BMW K75?
That plug fits into its mating plug found on the RIGHT side of the frame not far from the computer and battery, and it has a green-yellow wire and a green-red wire. Cut the plug, join those two wires neatly, use shrink tubing over them. Keep in mind that if you bypass the switch, you eliminated a safety item.
