What is S scale model train?
S Scale, or S gauge, is a model railroad scale modeled at 1:64 scale with track width at 22.43mm. S gauge is not to be confused with toy train standard gauge, a large-scale standard for toy trains in the early part of the 20th century. Our S Scale train set has been completely remodeled in the previous season.
What is the difference between ho and S scale?
S scale (sometimes called S gauge) is modeling in 3/16th to the foot or a proportion of 1:64 to the real full size model. “O” is 1/48th scale or 1/4″ to the foot. “S” is 1/64th scale or 3/16″ to the foot. “HO” scale, currently the most popular, is 1/87th scale or 3.5mm to the foot (a little over 1/8″).
How tall are s scale figures?
The average modern male is about 5′-8″ tall (27mm in S Scale) with the average female about 5′-3″ (25mm in S Scale). In the eighteenth century people were 2-3 inches shorter because of poorer diets. Hence we are looking for figures roughly 24-28mm tall to the top of the head.

Today American Flyer is produced by Lionel. Other manufactures, including RFG, produce parts, supplies, reproductions and other items, that can be used with American Flyer. Engines, cars and other rolling stock are produced by companies like American Models.
