What causes an outboard motor to not idle?
A partially clogged fuel filter can allow the engine to work properly when the flow is full open, but have such a diminished flow in idle that it will die. Check all fuel lines to make sure they are properly attached. When an outboard motor runs at speed but cannot hold an idle, it usually indicates a problem with the carburetor.
Can a Mercury outboard start on its own?
If your engine has a battery, make sure it is charged up before use; verify the battery connections are clean — as corroded connections can keep a Mercury outboard from starting. Outboard motors require that you start them up and hold the gas until they can idle on their own. Once the motor idles on its own, it is warm enough to operate.
What does it mean when a car won’t idle?
THE IN TANK FUEL PUMP & FILTER HAS BEEN REPLACED. THE FUEL INJECTORS WERE TAKEN OUT & CLEANED. NOW THE CAR STARTS EASILY, BUT WON’T IDLE. CAR ACCELERATES SMOOTHLY. THANKS FOR ANY HELP ! 1986 OLDS.
Why does my MerCruiser engine start but not stay running?
I get some of the fogging smoke from winterizing last year (dealer did it in November, no issues with motor reported at that time), have the muffs hooked up, etc. Anyway, would love your opinion! This is on a 2006 Mercruiser 5.0 MPI. Easy fix, but cost a couple bucks.
What causes hard starting and rough idle on a Mercury?
Faulty Air Temperature Sensor: Will cause hard starting and rough idle. Air temp sensor should be checked with an Ohm Meter with a Cold Start Ignition Test. *ACU and PCU only. Incorrect fuel pressure: Can be caused by a bad fuel pressure regulator, or restricted return. On Laser EFI motors, look under the Fuel Pressure Regulator.
