If the pedal is still poor the problem is more than likely the master cylinder. If the pedal is hard, remove each line clamp one at a time until the pedal goes soft. This will isolate where the problem lies. If you allowed the master cylinder reservoir to run completely dry then you will need to bleed it first.

Has anybody fixed one of these on a GQ? thanks in advance. Rather than bleeding in the conventional way..ie…pumping pedal up and releasing bleeder…try using a syringe and suck the good fluid thru. Start at the furthest away bleeder (l/h rear) and work your way to the closest.
