What are LEvcons?
Leading-edge vortex controller (LEVCON) systems are a continuation of leading-edge root extension (LERX) technology, but with actuation that allows the leading edge vortices to be modified without adjusting the aircraft’s attitude.
What is a wing extension?
Spoiler extensions are extensions for the roof spoiler of a vehicle. With the help of Spoiler Extensions you can give your vehicle an exclusive design, for example in carbon look or real carbon. As a rule, the spoiler extensions are mounted above / on the factory spoiler.
What are leading edge devices?
Leading-edge devices are basically designed to assist the flow in negotiating the sharp turn from the lower surface, around the leading edge, and back for a short distance on the upper surface, without separating. Modern high-lift devices as used on large transport aircraft form the subject of the next few paragraphs.
Is Tejas a delta wing?
The HAL Tejas Mark 2, or Medium Weight Fighter (MWF), is an Indian single-engine, canard delta wing, Multirole combat aircraft designed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) in collaboration with Aircraft Research and Design Centre (ARDC) of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Air Force (IAF).
What do Elevons do?
An elevon serves the same function as an elevator and an aileron. Elevons are moveable control surfaces located on the trailing edge of the wings. Working in unison (both up or both down) they function as elevators. The Space Shuttle uses elevons for control in the air close to the Earth as it descends from space.
Why do plane wingtips turned up?
High pressure on the lower surface creates a natural airflow that makes its way to the wingtip and curls upward around it. When flow around the wingtips streams out behind the airplane, a vortex is formed. These twisters represent an energy loss and are strong enough to flip airplanes that blunder into them.
What are plane winglets?
Winglets are vertical extensions of wingtips that improve an aircraft’s fuel efficiency and cruising range. Designed as small airfoils, winglets reduce the aerodynamic drag associated with vortices that develop at the wingtips as the airplane moves through the air.
Why aircraft wings are slotted?
A leading-edge slot is a fixed aerodynamic feature of the wing of some aircraft to reduce the stall speed and promote good low-speed handling qualities. A leading-edge slot is a spanwise gap in each wing, allowing air to flow from below the wing to its upper surface.
What is the purpose of leading edge?
Leading edge allows the wing to operate at a high angle of attack. Slats are placed at the leading edge. These are aerodynamic surfaces on the leading edge of the wing. These are high lift devices used for short takeoff.
Who built the flying wing?
Jack Northrop
In the 1940s, Jack Northrop generated great excitement with his amazing “Flying Wing,” which flew like an airplane but didn’t look like one, at least not in the traditional sense. It demonstrated that an aircraft did not need a tail or a fuselage to fly. The wing was enough.
