Is it safe to replace alternator with higher amperage?

Is it safe to replace alternator with higher amperage?

Guys, I’ve been told that there are very high risk if we replace oem alternator to higher amp such 70 amp to 90 amp. The current will overloaded and can burn the engine’s wiring and other electrical parts. My foreman said if i wanna replace to the higher amp alternator, i should replace the battery too that support the alternator. Is this true?

How do you remove a positive alternator cable?

The alternator output positive cable was easier for me to remove by getting a small 1/4 inch socket wrench from under the car. Reach up from the wheel well, up behind the engine, and up over the alternator and remove the nut that holds the positive cable in and remove it.

Which is better a 100A or 80A alternator?

Click to expand… All it means is the 100A alternator has higher ability than the 80A alternator to produce electricity. Where the 80A alternator will run at 100% to develop 80A, the 100A alternator will only be developing 80% of its capability of 100A. So in short, both alternators will consume the same power from the engine up to 80A.

What to do if your alternator won’t charge your battery?

Make sure you ground your multimeter, and put the power side to the stud that is coming out from the alternator (should be nut holding your wires that go to your battery). If your getting 13.5-14.5V there then the connection between the alternator, and battery is bad.

Can a low voltage battery be used as an alternator?

Make sure that the battery is fully charged when this job is completed. Do NOT use the newly installed alternator to ‘charge up’ a low voltage battery. This can cause damage to the alternator! The alternator is mounted to the engine, either the front or the side depending on the vehicle.

When is it time to replace your alternator?

Your alternator needs to know when each one of those things is plugged in and turned on, so that it can increase power. More importantly, just like with your breathing, your alternator needs to know when to put out less power.

What’s the difference between brand new and remanufactured alternators?

You know what brand new means, while “remanufactured” means the alternator gets completely taken apart, and many wear components replaced with new parts, often including upgrades for longer life. They have warranties too, and can last longer than new, since most of the internal parts are brand new.
