So How Do You Get An XR 250 Started?
- Step 1 – Turn on the fuel. Simple as that.. But surprising how often I forget.
- Step 2 – Full Choke.
- Step 3 – Cycling through the kick start.
- Step 4 – The Decompression Lever.
- Step 5 – Kicking The Hell Out Of It.
- Side Note – The Throttle.
- Gone Off Fuel.
- Turn The Gas On.

Thats funny, my vintage 250 is almost as fast as my XR400, which is punched out to a 440 with a Mikuni pumper. Also my vintage bike will start first or second kick always. When cold, my 400 is a biaotch to start. Sounds like valves all right. If they are adjusted properly it should start easily by doing the following.
