How do you know when drum brake shoes need replacing?

- Hand brake feels loose. If the hand brake requires a hard yank to keep the car from rolling off, chances are the brake shoes need replacing.

Are brake shoes hard to replace?
Not difficult. There may be some rusted small parts to replace as well. The rears are probably harder as there will be an emergency cable connection to do. Consider disassembling one side at a time so you can look at the side still together to see where the parts go.
