Does coasting save gas?
Unfortunately not – Coasting can be dangerous and coasting doesn’t save fuel. If you’re new to driving and are reading this, coasting is when you drive along with the clutch pushed in, or have the gear stick in neutral – or both. This disengages the engine from the wheels.
Can You decelerate with your foot off the gas?
The problem of having to accelerate to reach the light does seem an irritant, but from a safety standpoint – if not economy – I’d prefer it (unless the guy behind me rams me in impatience!) How about this: when I put the auto trans into N, I get more deceleration than when it is in D with my foot off the gas pedal.
Why is coasting a bad technique in a car?
This naturally happens every time you switch gear for a fraction of a second, but coasting is where you do this for a prolonged period using the car’s momentum and gravity to keep going. Why coasting is a bad technique… When coasting downhill, gravity and momentum combine so you rapidly gain speed.
What are the symptoms of a bad accelerator pedal?
Symptoms of a Bad or Failing Throttle/Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor. Common signs of a faulty pedal position sensor include inconsistent engine response, reduced fuel efficiency, and the Check Engine Light coming on. The days of having to constantly adjust the throttle cable due to a loose nut on the carburetor are long gone.
When do you want to decelerate without applying the brake?
Frequently, deceleration is desired without having to apply the brake. If I see a possible stop three blocks ahead, I would like to begin to slow without having to apply my brake. It may develop that I do not have to stop after all. Having to brake in order to decelerate moderately is, in my view, wasteful of gasoline and wearing of the brakes?

Why does my car not accelerate beyond a certain point?
If your car is only able to accelerate upto a point and won’t go faster beyond that speed, your accelerator pedal sensor is not able to send positioning signals accurately which causes your car not to speed up beyond a point of pressing the gas pedal. 4. Your car won’t shift up or jerks upon depressing the pedal
