Do you prime oil pump?
It’s also a good idea to prime the oil pump before it is installed. Unprimed, an oil pump could run for several seconds before picking up oil. Or worse, it might not pick up oil at all.
How should the oil pump be primed when installing it into the engine?
Prime the system by turning the oil pump with a power drill and Priming Tool, or with an external Engine Preluber. Rotate the crankshaft by hand, while priming the system. This ensures that oil gets around all the bearings and into all the internal oil passages.
What kind of oil pump does DT 466 engine use?
This video is all about a repair our shop did on a DT466E International diesel engine. It would not start and we finally found the engine oil pump to be weak along with a scored oil pressure regulator. The engine oil pump feeds the ‘high pressure oil pump’ that runs the HEUI system.
Why does my dt466e have no oil pressure?
Pulled the tube and checked it. It was fine. Pulled the engine oil pump (on crank) and it looks worn. Light grooving and some wear on the gear lobes in the pump. Leaning towards that being it. With it not filling the front cover i don’t think it’s the pressure Reg but i could be wrong.
Where is the ferry plug on a DT466?
A DT466 high pressure oil pump leak is one of the most common issues found on these International engines. While there are a few reasons a high pressure oil pump (HPOP) could leak oil, the most common issue is it to leak past the threads and O ring on the ferry plug, found on the back of the HPOP facing the engine block.
Can a HPOP be used on a DT466?
This article applies to all DT466 engines equipped with a HPOP, however specifics such as wrench or socket size could be different from engine to engine. The engine this article is based off of was found in a 2000 International 4700 DT466E. For other International specific guides, visit the International category page.
