How does the EGR work on a GLK 250?

Basically it collects the “bad” particles in a filter and the EGR system will eventually require a regen where the DPF system will blast the filter with super heated exhaust to burn out the “bad” particles. It has been a nightmare system on diesel tractor trailers.
