Can you take a caravan to newnes campground?
Newnes campground is known as Mother Natures amphitheater and it certainly doesn’t disappoint! It is a great place for a weekend getaway with family and friends, and it is accessible with your camper-van or camper trailer as well as a standard tent and tarp set-up.
Do you need a 4WD to get to newnes?
Enjoy a fascinating journey back into the past on Newnes Industrial Ruins walk, and kids will love visiting the luminous Glow Worm tunnel, just a short drive away. You can also camp on the other side of the river; however you can only access this camping area by foot or 4WD across the ford near the Newnes Hotel.

Well-behaved dogs are permitted. (Pets are not permitted within the adjacent Wollemi National Park.) Relax in nature and in comfort.

Wollemi National Park is always open but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger. Contact hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 4:30pm.
Can you swim in Lake Wallace?
Great for kayaking fishing swimming, and if you have a small yacht, sailing. No power boats allowed which makes it very peaceful and family friendly. Showers and toilets cleaned every day.
How do I get to Newnes Plateau?
From the Zig Zag Railway on Chifley Road (part of the Botanists Way), the Discovery Trail travels down into Lithgow and past the State Mine Heritage Park on the north side of the town. From here you drive up the State Mine Gully Road onto Newnes Plateau where it joins the Glow Worm Tunnel Road.

Can you camp in a tent at Lake Wallace If you have a toilet?
Camping is permitted and you will not find a better free place to camp anywhere in a large radius from here. There is toilets with free hot and cold showers available located on site. The playground there is basic but will entertain the young kids for a while.
Is there free camping at the Newnes Hotel?
Our campground is the riverflat before you come to the Newnes Hotel. There is also free camping at the National Park just down the road from us. Our campsites have access to the river and there is plenty of space for the kids to run around and kick a ball. There are fire places and we sell fire wood at the Hotel Kiosk.
Where is the Newnes campground in Wollemi National Park?
Newnes campground is on the western side of Wollemi National Park. To get there: Access to the other campground on the opposite side of the Wolgan river is by walking or driving across the ford near the Newnes Hotel – take care as the river levels can rise rapidly
Where to camp on the Newnes River in Lithgow?
There is limited fishing in the river at Newnes, it is probably best to check with Newnes Kiosk (formerly the old Newnes Hotel). Car based camping areas are provided at Little Capertee camping area, 400 metres past the hotel. There are pleasant grassy camp sites and a pit toilet.
