How does a supercharged MR2 engine work?
The supercharger is driven by a serpentine belt off of the crankshaft and shares it’s drive belt with the water pump. An electromagnetic clutch is installed on the supercharger, allowing it to freewheel when it is not needed. The clutch is controled by the engine’s electronic control unit (ECU).
