Can you still have babies with no balls?
Men with one undescended testicle can still have children, but their fertility is lower than normal by roughly half. If they have surgery to correct it, especially when younger, their fertility is about the same as if they never had a problem.
At what age do testicles drop into place?
Most of the time, a boy’s testicles descend by the time he is 9 months old. Undescended testicles are common in infants who are born early. The problem occurs less in full-term infants.
What causes testicles to disappear?
The cause of testicular retraction is an overactive cremaster muscle. This thin muscle contains a pocket in which the testicle rests. When the cremaster muscle contracts, it pulls the testicle up into groin. This response is normal in males.
How do you fix undescended testicles?
Surgery. An undescended testicle is usually corrected with surgery. The surgeon carefully manipulates the testicle into the scrotum and stitches it into place (orchiopexy). This procedure can be done either with a laparoscope or with open surgery.
What happens if a baby testicle doesn’t drop?
A testicle that does not drop into the correct place in the scrotum could become damaged. This could lead to infertility (not being able to have children) later in life or to other medical problems.
Can a baby boy testicles go back up?
The cremaster muscle is a muscle in the groin that pulls the testicles up closer to the body. It then relaxes to release the testicles back into the scrotum. This movement is a normal reflex. However, a child can develop retractile testicles if the testicles do not move back down into the scrotum.
Is undescended testicle surgery painful?
During the procedure, the undescended testicle is moved to its normal position in the scrotum. It is normal to have some discomfort at home especially at the wound sites. This typically lasts for a few days. You may see swelling/bruising of the groin and/or scrotum.
Is undescended testicle a birth defect?
Sometimes, one testis or both testes fail to descend, which is called undescended testis or undescended testicle. Undescended testicle is a birth defect that occurs in as many as 3% of boys, making it one of the most common birth defects seen.
When should undescended testicles be treated?
Treatment before 1 year of age might lower the risk of complications of an undescended testicle, such as infertility and testicular cancer. Earlier is better, but it’s recommended that surgery takes place before the child is 18 months old.
