Can you run a transmission without a filter?
You should be OK to run your transmission without a filter for a week or so. The only part you can get problems is the Valve Body, and it can be cleaned if needed. Not recommend to run a transmission without a filter but, I don’t see a big problem to run it for a week or two.

Is there a secret to dropping the transmission pan?

Can a trans Pan be removed from a 4×4?
The transmission can now be lifted up with a floor jack from the rear extension housing or the transfer case on 4X4s. The pan will now clear the valve body without damaging any wires and connectors to the solenoids. The best way to do this is to remove the 2 bolts on the side of the transmission that hold the shift linkage bracket.
