Are there any recalls on Polaris edge 550s?
In my small area there have been hundreds of 500 edge tourings (air cooled) with engines destroyed from overheating. Polaris recognizes this problem but refuses to do a recall.
Are there any problems with the edge 550 engine?
It is well known and documented that those engines tend to have problems. You might get 500 or you might get 5000 or even double those miles before they poop, but often they do. It is not an engine that can be counted on like it predecessor fan cousins.

Polaris recognizes this problem but refuses to do a recall. They admit that there is an engineering flaw which allows the fan to draw hot air from the muffler/exhaust area unto the right side piston causing overheating and loss of the engine.
Is the Polaris 550 Edge Trail touring ski sled?
Some people put those things through heck running a trapline or hauling stuff, the Trail RMK is the backbone of rental fleets all over the country, and the original poster had great luck with his sled, so what was so different about what was going on at a ski hill? I heard bout the probs with my sons 03 550 when i got it.

Why did they pull the plug on the Polaris 550?
Pull the plug and sell the fleet. Someone will show up with a few semis and buy the whole fleet. Then they could buy some 4-strokes or liquid 2-strokes. Why keep wasting money on something that supposedly doesn’t work?
How much does a PTO side piston cost on a Polaris 550?
Two nights ago, I replaced a PTO side piston (this is fact, BTW, not “opinion”) in a ’12 550/IQ in which (once again), the piston ring locating pin had sunk, ring rotated and snagged the exhaust port. 4950 miles. Cylinder and piston, gone. $600+ in parts, 2 hours labor.
