I’ve been having a lot of issues with my 1998 VFR800 FiW recently. It’s been off of the road for a couple of months now due to electrical issues. I thought that these had been solved, but apparently not… I’ll tell you the tale so far. For a while, the bike had been dropping power as I was riding.

What to do about a blown battery on a VFR800?

Pulled out the wire B8, disconnected it from the metal plug, gave it a spray, re-attached it and pushed it back in. Charged the new battery, and put that it. Replaced the blown bulbs. Started the bike – all seemed well.

What should the resistance be on a VFR800?

Worth checking the stator too, three leads, same colour going into the reg/rec. Disconnect from the reg, multimeter set to OHMS measure resistance between each output lead. should be 4 – 8 ohms depending on the quality of the meter. Then measure between each lead and a good earth.

Is the VfR 800 V-TEC from 2002 problems?

Hi guys i recently bought me self lovely vfr800 from 2002 but bike is after small drop and try to fix it and start it and here is the problem. Everything turns on and engine is cranking but no fuel pump noise or starting.

What to do if your VFR 800 battery has blown?

Also check the main fuse beside the battery has not blown. Hopefully the bike will now start. If not eliminate issues with the safety interlocks by putting the bike in neutral, hold bike upright, raise the side-stand and pull in the clutch and try to start the bike.

Why is the fuel pump not working on my VFR 800?

As you are not hearing the fuel pump check the obvious – kill switch has not been knocked to the off position whilst you were getting the bike upright again. Also check the main fuse beside the battery has not blown. Hopefully the bike will now start.
