The swap itself is not bad. It is the pictures and marking all the sensors and marking the wiring and the vacume lines ect… then once the motor is out, all the other work you do to the engine bay and parts you normally can’t get to. The swap itself goes back in like the 3.8 came out. You need to use the sl oil pan.

Do you need to change timing chain on 380SL?

Go with the 5.0 euro. If you can afford it I strongly recommend having the heads redone timing chain and guides replaced. I tried to get away without doing it and had the motor in and out several times and am ending up having to go there anyway. would have been so much easier to start that way from the beginning.
