4l60e’s are pretty much all compatible excet between the pwm trans and the non pwm. non pwm trans will not work in any 96 and newer trucks.the torque converter will slip the clutch and the valvebodies are different. just changing the internal wiring will not work.

The plugs on the trans. are different on the 96 up I am pretty sure as well as the Neatral safety switch. The 96 up will work till 99 obs the tq verter changed then will work till 07. 95 down will work til 93. You will have to swap internal transmission harness! and the later ones are pretty different from the earlier ones.

You can replace it with another 4L60E 1998 and newer and you can upgrade it to the 4L65E which is the same but uses 5 planetary gears in stead of 4 that is used in the 4L60E. 1998 was the change off year i believe where they started to section off the transmission in to three parts.
