What is DIACAP and what does DIACAP do?
DIACAP Overview. DIACAP is a set of standard activities, tasks, and reports that make up the process for the certification and accreditation (C&A). It establishes a C&A process to manage the implementation of IA capabilities and services and provide visibility of accreditation decisions regarding the operation of DoD systems.
What does it mean to be accredited in DIACAP?
DIACAP requires an information system to be accredited across the network i.e. the certification and accreditation process will not just be system-based, but will also ensure that the information system ensures security when interacting and communicating over the Global Information Grid.
When was the final version of DIACAP released?
On November 28, 2007, the final version of the DIACAP guidance was released as DoD Instruction 8510.01. The DIACAP embraced the idea of information assurance controls were the primary set of security requirements for information systems.
When did DIACAP change to risk management framework?
As of May 2015, the DIACAP was replaced by the ” Risk Management Framework (RMF) for DoD Information Technology (IT)”. Although re-accreditations via DIACAP continued through late 2016, systems that had not yet started accreditation by May 2015 were required to transition to the RMF processes.
