When installing the new one, had to manually and carefully rotate the splined shaft on the TC so that the new one would slip/pop over it. New switch selectors come shipped with the white plastic dooda to indicate that the switch indexed to TC Neutral… do not try to rotate the selector switch gear (s) or you will damage it.
How to fix AC Delco transfer case actuator?
If this lasts longer than 1 year it’ll be a win. Encoder motor fixed “Service 4WD” message and wasn’t much more for AC DELCO over aftermarket. First bought aftermarket 4WD selector switch as guess to fix the message. Then got OBD-II scan which would have saved me $50 on the switch that didn’t correct problem.
Why did I remove the transfer case from my 4WD?
My 4wd has worked flawlessly ever since. Removed the old one after a couple of months of receiving “Service 4WD” message on console, just in time for winter, just in time because it would not shift the transfer case into Neutral, 4WD HI or 4WD LO any more. So, the old one was removed with the TC still in Rear WD.
