What cable does a power supply use?
The primary task of the Power Supply Unit (PSU) is to provide your motherboard with power. This is done via the 20-pins or 24-pins connector. A 24-pins cable is backwards compatible with a 20-pins motherboard, often this cable can be split into 20- and 4-pins (like in the image above).

Do PSU cables matter?
If you are referring to the 110 VAC power cord there is no problem as to which cord you use. However, the cables that connect from the PSU to the motherboard, devices, graphics card, etc. are not inter-changeable from one brand to another.

Are all power cables the same?
In the US, that’s almost always 120V AC. The number on the power cable determines the maximum safe voltage for that power cable. Therefore, in the US, any cable rated to 120V or higher will work fine. Now, you do have to worry about the current printed on the cable.
Can I mix power cables?
Do not use modular cables meant for one PSU in a different one. Modular cables have no standard, and thus are proprietary to each manufacturer. They even vary between models made by the same manufacturer in some cases. If you do, you risk short circuiting and damaging your components, and the PSU as well.
