Why can’t ReFS be used to boot a Windows operating system?
Windows cannot boot from a ReFS file system, and requires NTFS. You can currently only use ReFS with Storage Spaces, where its reliability features help protect against data corruption. On Windows Server 2016, you can choose to format volumes with ReFS instead of NTFS.
Is ZFS better than hardware RAID?
It’s also much more capable and powerful in recovery situations than hardware RAID. To recover your data, all you need is another storage server with the same OS. This gives ZFS a greater control to bypass some of the challenges hardware RAID cards usually have.
Should I use ZFS on Ubuntu?
While ZFS isn’t installed by default, it’s trivial to install. It’s officially supported by Ubuntu so it should work properly and without any problems. However, it’s only officially supported on the 64-bit version of Ubuntu–not the 32-bit version. Just like any other app, it should install immediately.
