Is there fluid between transfer case and transmission?
It has the 4L80e transmission. It has a small leak coming from between the transfer case and the transmission. What I am asking is “should” there be fluid between the two?
What causes an oil leak in a transfer case?
A leaking transfer case could mean that you’ve had a seal failure but it could also mean that there is an issue inside the transfer case itself. If a bearing goes bad inside a transfer case, it could cause it’s output shaft to wobble and thus causing a leak at the oil seal. This is true for many oil leaks if I’m honest.
What causes a fluid leak in a transmission?
Most automatic transmissions have a pan that acts as a reservoir for fluid. A gasket provides a seal between the pan and the transmission. That gasket can eventually wear out, resulting in a fluid leak.
What to do if your transfer case is leaking?
It’s important to address fluid leaks right away (as soon as you discover one) to prevent internal transfer case damage. Changing the transfer case fluid on a regular basis is also important. You can find the service interval for your vehicle’s transfer case in the owner’s manual.
