How much does it cost to replace a cross member?
Neither did I replace anything but the cross member (and sway bar links) since I had replaced all the rest just a year or so ago anyway. Even so, you can get all those extra parts and the cross member for less than $240.

Now Im looking at a 90 which needs rear crossmember replacing and I was wondering what the ball-park figure would be to pay someone (independent garage – not main dealer!) to replace..? I know there are a lot of variables, but has anyone had one done and what did it cost..?

This involves grinding off the old chassis legs half way down, fitting up the new crossmember and extensions and welding up. I can replace all the ancillary stuff after giving it a good dose of chassis paint and waxoyl.

What do you need to replace a Jeep Patriot crossmember?
They’ll require the replacement of pretty much everything that attaches to the cross member as well-stuff like the control arms, tie rods, ball joints, sway bar links, maybe even the sway bar too. And they will require that they replace all of these things with very expensive OEM parts.
