Comet NEOWISE can now be seen just after sunset for observers in the Northern Hemisphere, according to NASA. (Sorry, Southern Hemisphere skywatchers, it’s not visible there.) The comet made its closest approach to the sun July 3 but was only visible before dawn until now.

NEOWISE is nowhere near as bright as Hale-Bopp was. Unlike Hale-Bopp, NEOWISE will never be easily visible to the eye. So it’s not a great comet. But it’s a beautiful binocular comet, absolutely the best comet we’ve had for casual observers in some time.

What time can I spot the comet tonight?
Comet NEOWISE should be visible from about an hour after sunset by looking in a northerly direction. It will travel from the north-west to north-east through the night. If the skies are clear, it will be best seen at about 2.30am by looking north-east just above the horizon.
