Can you put a TJ hardtop on a YJ?
I have a TJ top on my YJ. It will work and seal well, it just takes a fair bit of grinding due to the angle of the windshield. Just know up front grinding fiberglass kinda sucks. If you are willing to give it a go it can work just fine.
Are TJ and YJ hardtops the same?
Unless it’s been modified, no. The windshield channel between a YJ and TJ are completely different. Otherwise they fit the tub the same. As for aftermarket, I wouldn’t know.

How do you replace soft top on Jeep Wrangler?
Place the upper part of the doors onto the lower part of the doors and align the holes. Install the bolts and tighten each into the compression nuts to secure the door. Adjust the top until all portions are aligned. Go back and fully tighten all bolts. Be careful not to over-tighten the bolts and strip the nuts.
Is it better to replace a hard top or soft top?
Soft tops, with their extra flexibility, can bend and slide across these same objects, and soft top frame parts or door surrounds can always be replaced if damaged. Trail tops and frameless tops are also a good alternative to prevent trail damage, and cost a whole lot less than having to repair or replace a hard top.
