Why is the trunk of my Volkswagen Beetle not opening?
The trunk latch is broken. I cannot open the trunk with remote or key. I opened the rear seat to gain access to the trunk, reach my arm in and the latch is broken. I know this because when I pull on the latch mechanism, it’s frozen, will not move at all.

What to do when rear seat wont open?
On the rear deck is a cover that isn’t for the child seat, its about center of the seat. Pop that cover up and use a screwdriver in there, pushing to the drivers side of the car. It takes a good amount of pressure to release the seat. There is a way to release the rear drivers side seat from inside of the car.
Why does the rear hatch on my TDI not open?
I pressed the hatch closed to re-secured it and operated the handle (emblem) and it works just fine. It seems to be a timing issue. My old TDI SW would allow you to press the latch release even when it was already open, it seems for some reason this is no longer the case. I am thinking it is a safety “feature”.

All fixed now with some crimps & some suitable extension wires, then plenty of fabric tape to reinforce/protect the area it passes into the boot lid.
