Why is the glow plug warning light not going out?
The glow plug warning light on my 2005 311 refuses to go out after starting the engine, even when the engine is hot. I’m guessing that either one or more of the plugs is dead and needs to be replaced or the timer relay underneath the battery is faulty and ditto.

Tested the glow plugs – they are all working fine. I put a multi meter on each one using voltage from the positive terminal on the battery, then turned on the ignition to position II and got 12v running to earth through each plug for around 30 seconds.

Then I tested the relay by sticking a probe into the head of the plug cable nearest the flywheel and turned the ignition to position II again.
Can a broken glow plug Fry the relay?
A shot glow plug can fry the relay so i’d put a whole set in. They are only tensioned to about 10nM so they dont need to be stupidly tight. When removing them just work at them until they want to ‘crack’ so put stupid tension on them first go, there’s nothing worse than a broken glow plug.

Just to clarify the glow plug light works as normal when starting, comes on with the key, goes out after a few seconds, start engine, after a couple of seconds it comes back on and stays on for exactly 60 sec’s, then goes out and stays off.
