Why is my oil needle jumping?
Low oil level could cause the gauge to intermittently drop out, perhaps on turns or acceleration. Also, it doesn’t hurt to check for dilution or contamination. If color and thickness seem OK, we’ll move on to the gauge. Vehicles that have an oil pressure gauge employ a sending unit, threaded into a port on the engine.
Why does my oil gauge keeps fluctuating?
oil pressure gauge started fluctuating the other day.. This is normal operation for your oil pressure. The faster the motor spins, (RPM, revolutions per minute) the faster the oil pump spins creating higher oil pressure. Keep in mind, most gauges aren’t accurate.
What causes erratic oil pressure gauge?
There are rare mechanical problems that can cause an unsteady oil pressure reading. They usually happen right after an engine has been overhauled. If that sounds like you, then suspect a faulty oil pressure by-pass valve or spring inside the oil pump. Valves stick or can get installed wrong on some engines.

What kind of engine does a Toyota Tundra have?
2000 Tundra AC, SR5, 4.7 V8 4WD, 320,00ish miles. Filthyphil likes this. Looks normal for the 2002… except my ‘idle low’ never drops below where the needle is sitting in that pic (unless engine is turned off).
Is the oil pressure switch an idiot switch?
The oil pressure switch is just that, a idiot switch gives you a rough idea not a (real value idea). If you want real value you have to change the switch and use a real meter for accuracy. Hi everyone. Thanks for all the responses, definitley feel better about everything now.
