Why does my car have a coolant reservoir?
Average rating from 1,158 customers who received a Coolant is leaking Inspection. The coolant reservoir is the plastic reservoir mounted in the engine bay that stores the coolant for the engine. Coolant reservoirs are required because engines go through cycles of expelling and absorbing coolant as they warm up and cool down.
Where did the coolant go?

What happens to the coolant when the engine is cold?
When the engine is cold, the pressure of the cooling system is low and more coolant is required, and when the engine is warm the pressure of the cooling system is increased and therefore less coolant is required.
What should I do if my car coolant is still hot?
Continue to inspect your coolant reservoir for any signs of a leak. Never refill your coolant when your engine is hot. Always wait for it to cool down. If you open a radiator cap when the engine is still hot, you could be burnt by escaping steam or hot coolant.

Is it OK to fill coolant reservoir every day?
Filling it up every day isn’t going to cure it. For this to be happening there is an air pocket in the system somewhere. I would wait until the weekend (or a day when you arent working), take the cap off, open the heater temp valve to max and run the engine gently until it is very hot.
