When did Kia remove the external transmission filter?
A lot of the Kia models deleted the external filter in the later 2001 model year. They only had a internal filter that was only changed when the transmission got rebuilt. Here is a parts diagram of your transmission it only shows the internal filter in it.

How do you replace transmission pan in Kia Optima?
Remove the 10 mm pan bolts that attach the transmission pan to the transmission. If your Optima is not equipped with a drain plug, remove the bolts slowly to avoid spilling transmission fluid as the pan is loosened. Remove the bolts starting at one corner and allow the fluid to drain into the pan before removing the final bolt.
