What was the hesitation problem on my Subaru Outback?
My hesitation was due to my plug wire on #3 breaking apart after the last spark plug change (I pulled on the proper location of the wires to take the wires off). I changed them in the parking lot of the local Subaru dealership (when I was out of town!). Fixed.

Do you Subaru? Swapped in a MAF from an Outback EJ25 (either a ’97 or 98) that had the same part number as my ’97 OBS. Fired it up, let it warm up, drive around the block and no problems. Shut it down for a while, looked over the engine some more, and fired it back up.

I noticed my 2016 Outback limited 2.5i was not idling as smooth as it could at 61,311. I also noticed hard acceleration performance might indicate a spark plugs issues. When I pulled the plugs today at the above mileage, the gap was off significantly due to the wear of the plugs and the electrode was pretty warn.
