What controls the fan clutch?

What controls the fan clutch?

Most fan clutches are filled with a silicone-based oil. The oil is held in an internal reservoir when the fan is disengaged. To engage the fan, internal valves open and allow the fluid to fill the working area of the clutch. This creates friction between the drive plate and the housing, causing the fan to spin.

Does the fan clutch affect the transmission?

Your transmission should not be affected however your truck will be slow and show a loss of power with a the fan locked up continually. (The roar should be driving you crazy) The only reason the tranny may be affected is if it down-shifts due to the loss of power when the fan goes into lock-up.

Is the air solenoid on the Horton clutch working?

The air solenoid on the firewall has no power and the manual rocker swich has power only on one side “the yellow/orange wire”. The Horton clutch seems to be in good working order and will release with air pressure.

Why does my engine fan keep coming on when the a / C is off?

You could have a bad high press switch on the A/C. Thats the swtich that will turn the fan on when the A/C is on and say your not moving to get air flow. Unplug the swtich and put a jumper wire on it and if the fan stops you found your porblem. They can go bad and make the fan stay on even with the A/C off.

What does it mean when the fan clutch won’t disengage?

If the Fan clutch is seized or the valve is stuck open, the truck would give a code, if the PCM is telling it to go full speed (and no fan circuit codes) then a input to the PCM (EOT…etc) is telling it and if they are faulty they would produce a code.

How does the fan clutch work on a snowplough?

But your truck has an Electro-Viscous Fan Clutch and the speed is controlled by the PCM. I believe that the PCM monitors the oil temperature and A/C Unit among other inputs to regulate the speed. Also if you have a snowplough PTO package, this also affect the PCM fan speed output (PCM Programming is different).
