The 583’s and 670 ho’s I have owned I would give them 4-5 primers on a cold start with no problems. On a cooled start are the only times I ever had troubles. 3 WET pumps, pull it over with the throttle cracked, an additional shot or 2 once its running.

What’s the problem with my rave snowmobile?
I was racing around yesterday with no problems. I went to start it today but it will only start if I prime it 2X and hold the throttle wide open and even then it will only run for about 10 – 15 seconds. If I dont hold it wide open it wont start and floods the plugs. After it runs for the 10 – 15 seconds and dies I check the plugs and there flooded!

When your carb becomes flooded by fuel, which can happen, and the fuel sits and sits, your float valve can go downhill. Surprisingly, you’ll probably pay less for a whole new float valve than for the inlet needle.
Is it OK to ride a snowmobile while the engine is still cold?
Some sledders turn their snowmobiles on and ride them while the engine is still cold. We don’t advise this, as it puts strain on the engine. That said, you will have to prime or choke your engine more than you would with a warm sled engine. Otherwise though, limit too much choking.
