Is the spark plug on my Kodiak 700 working?
On the Pickup coil I got a peak around 247.2 ac, and on the Source coil I got 87.2 ac*I have also checked the spark plug cap and it is adding 10 ohms to the resistance values to the secondary coil reading. The only thing that gets me closes to a spark in playing with the on/off switch but as I said it checks out fine.*

This and foremost I am working on a 1999 Yamaha Kodiak 400 4×4 (Standard) (YFM400FWB-L)……. My friend dropped it off asking for me to look at it. Now the issue was that some of the wires were melted in the ATV and from what I can recall it was mostly ground wires.
Is the CDI box on a new Kodiak?
The cdi box is brand new and it does not have 12 volt power (red wire) going to it. I thought it would get DC current from the pickup or stator could but i am not reading any, and thats with the old stator and the new rm stator. It does read AC current thou.

Purchase an in-line spark tester and throw it on to see how your spark is doing. Last thing is your pick up coil gap. Take a look at that and see what the spec is in the manual. Check the gap you have and compare the two. Oh gosh. This is homework for me. Never really caught on to the electrical side of atvs..

How can I tell if my ATV engine is sparking?
To quickly tell if your ATV is getting spark, remove the spark plug from the engine. Reinsert the plug back into the coil wire. Hold the electrodes of the spark plug close to the engine to ground it, and try starting the engine. If you see spark coming from the end of the spark plug, your ATV engine is getting spark.
