How long does a ponytail have to be to donate to Locks of Love?

Locks of Love requires a minimum of 10″ of hair for donation. To see if your hair is long enough for donation, pull your hair back in a pony tail and measure from approximately 1″ to 2″ above your pony tail holder to the tip of the ends of your hair.
Does Locks of Love take hair?
Anyone can cut your hair. We encourage all of our donors to go to a salon they are already familiar with to ensure their comfort when donating.
Where can I donate my hair for Locks of Love?
Places in India where you can donate your hair:
- Hair Crown. The hair that Samaira and Elakshi are donating.
- Cope With Cancer. This Mumbai-based organisation accepts a minimum of 12 inches of cut hair.

Can I donate my ponytail?
Once your ponytails are ready to donate, either drop them off at your nearest Sustainable Salon or follow the packing and mailing instructions outlined on the Ponytail Donation Form.
How many inches does locks of love require?
10 inches
Hair We Share and Children with Hair Loss both accept colored or grey but not highlighted hair over 8 inches. Locks of Love and Pink Heart Funds both take hair colored or grey but not over-processed or bleached hair over 10 inches. Wigs for Kids will take grey, but not dyed, hair that is at least 12 inches long.
What is the ponytail project?
Ponytail Project is a movement that started at St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School in 2015. Ponytail Project empowers students to get together and raise vital funds for Cancer Council by cutting off their ponytails.
How long does hair have to be donate?
8 to 14 inches
Donated hair needs to be a minimum length when straightened, usually from 8 to 14 inches (about 21 to 36 centimeters). Find out what the chosen organization requires. Are there types of hair I can’t donate? Some organizations may not take hair that is colored/bleached, permed, dreadlocked, or gray.
How do you cut your hair to donate it?
The Hair Donating Process
- Hair must be clean and dry.
- Tie hair into at least four sections (six are even better) around the head for a more generous donation.
- Make sure each ponytail or braid is tightly secured.
- Cut hair above the rubber band.
- Wrap all ponytails in one piece of tissue paper and seal in a plastic bag.
