How does a Smart Car start and stop?
During the stop phase of start / stop, the Smart engine starts automatically in the following situations: The automatic start/stop system has been switched off. The clutch pedal has been depressed. The brake has been depressed. The vehicle is rolling. The temperature in the vehicle interior differs from the set temperature.
What to do when your smart won’t start?
Put the car in neutral and push it forward a foot or two. Try it again. I had the same problem and took it into the dealer and they said that it was the clutch and replaced it and charged me for it. They said that it is a manual transmission with not covered by the warranty or the extended service.

Many suggestions were proposed as to what was wrong, from dead battery, bad grounds, bad starter motor, bad transmission motor. Non of these were the problem. No mud in there This afternoon tried to start it again and it took awhile then it started, left it running for half and hour shut it off and does the same thing and won’t start Any help and recommendations would be nice, here at the show all week no hurry to leave. 2005 Smart Fortwo Passion, 219,351km, last serviced last month.

Yesterday at the International Plowing Match it was raining quite a bit (tons of mud is a understatement) and drove out to the store and then back, parked it and it won’t start. Left it for a day and tried to start it and nothing here’s what I see:

2005 Smart Fortwo Passion, 219,351km, last serviced last month. Check the cable connection at the back of the SAM Unit, some times the connection overheat and the fuel pump doesn’t work… Check battery voltage. It could be dying. Check battery voltage. It could be dying.
