How do you put oil in a Volvo?
Torque the drain plug to 35 Nm. Add 5 L oil through the oil filter hole. Be careful not to over-fill the engine with oil. Wait for several minutes before checking the oil level using a dipstick. Add more oil to bring the level between Min and Max marks of the dipstick.

Locate the 13mm oil drain plug and place the drain pan below it. Remove the oil drain plug by turning it counter-clockwise. Locate the engine oil filter. Remove the oil filter using oil filter pliers. Before installing a new oil filter, apply a small amount of oil to the oil filter gasket ring. Torque oil filter to 25 Nm.
What kind of oil does a Volvo XC70 use?
Most Volvos have the oil type printed on the oil cap – it will likely be 5W-20, 5W-30, 5W-40, 10W-30 or 10W-40. If it isn’t printed on the oil cap, check your owners manual for the exact type before adding new oil. We recommend wearing safety glasses whenever you are working under your XC70.
