Can a car go over 2500 rpm in first gear?
My car will not exceed 2500 RPM in any gear. In first (or any other gear) gear I can drive up to 2500 RPM and then must shift into 2nd (or the next gear) if I want to go faster, if RPM goes above 2500 the car stops accelerating and the RPM drops to 2000 at which time the car starts to accelerate again.
What should the engine RPM be in 5th gear?
The engine is running at a very high rate when I come to a stop as if the idle is set too high. The car does not lose electrical power when this happens. I have driven the car more than an hour in 5th gear going 45 to 50 mph keeping the RPMs between 2000 & 2500.
Why does my car not Rev over 2500 rpm?
Another possible cause might be a partially-clogged fuel filter or a weak fuel pump. If you post back with the missing information that I mentioned above, we might be able to be more helpful. Stoveguyy July 6, 2016, 3:19am #3 Whew! Car will not rev over 2500 but u continue to drive it?

When to shift to the next gear on the RPM gauge?
When you accelerate, shift to the next gear before your RPM gauge needle enters the red line area. If your car’s engine is hesitating during acceleration, it should be inspected by a mechanic as this could be dangerous in situations like where acceleration may be necessary.

How to monitor RPMs to get the best performance?
When you need to slow down in a vehicle with a manual transmission, you can monitor the RPMs to determine when to smoothly downshift to a lower gear. Press the clutch in and rev the engine to the engine speed at which you would normally shift to a lower gear. Shift to the next lowest gear, then slowly let the clutch out to engage the gear.
What kind of car will not Rev past 3000 rpm?
I have a year 2000 E220CDI and the engine will not rev higher than 3000 rpm. It starts ok and runs ok for a while then the problem appears, quite worrying when your trying to overtake or coming out of a junction and suddenly the car will not accelerate!!
What happens to the gears in a Mercedes?
In fact, some Mercedes drivers have even attempted to sue the company over failing transmissions. Over time your Mercedes transmission will accrue wear. The various parts of the transmission, including gears, linkages, cables and other components aren’t designed to last forever, and after extensive use can begin to wear out.
What are the most common Mercedes Benz transmission problems?
Top 5 Mercedes-Benz Transmission Problems. Won’t come out of Park gear due to a defective brake light switch. ( DIY How to replace the Brake Light Switch) Continue to read if you would like to learn how to troubleshoot your Mercedes-Benz transmission yourself and where you should start. 1. Check Fluid Level
Why does my Mercedes not Rev at 3000rpm?
Another cause could be a leaking pilot bush, this is the large electric plug on the side of the ‘box and when leaking it allows atf fluid from the ‘box to ‘track’ inside its wiring loom and enter the transmission ecu (located inside the cabin) causing a few electrical gremlins. .
Why does the RPMs get high when changing gears?
The main problem is that the rpms get high when I shift gears. I’ve taken the car to 3 mechanics and they can’t find the solution. There’s no air leaks. Throttle body, throttle position sensor and mass air flow sensor replaced. I’ve had mechanic do a tune up, oil change and I got new battery.
Why are my gears not working in my Mercedes?
Over time your Mercedes transmission will accrue wear. The various parts of the transmission, including gears, linkages, cables and other components aren’t designed to last forever, and after extensive use can begin to wear out. This can contribute to gear selector failure, and gear selector failure can further wear out parts as well.
Why does my car stall at low rpm?
The will likely force your computer to stall the engine and only allow it to run at low RPMs, which means the car will only move at slow speeds. This is a safety feature enforced by the computer so that your engine doesn’t get too damaged.
Can a stalling engine be intermittent driveability?
Intermittent driveability problems of any kind are always a challenge to diagnose. When a customer brings you a vehicle and complains of a stalling problem, you may not have much to go on other than their description of what’s happening and when it happens.
When does a car stall at low rpm?
The RPM goes to 0 and the engine shuts off. This only happens when travelling at low speeds (e.g. slowly accelerating from a stop, braking, moving in stop and go traffic) This NEVER happens when I’m travelling above 10 mph (e.g. if I’m coasting at 40 and let my foot off the gas, the RPM can go to 500 RPM but it will never stall in this case).
Why does my car keep bucking at 4, 000 rpm?
As the throttle is applied the engine is asked to increase the rate of combustion, in most cases up to 4,000 RPMs during the acceleration process and before the transmission shifts into a higher gear. Some of the more common reasons why an engine will stumble through this process may include the following individual components:
How to troubleshoot a hesitating or bucking car?
Step 1: Physically inspect the fuel filter. If the fuel filter is dirty like the image on the right, it’s probably causing a restriction of fuel flow to the engine and should be replaced. Step 2: Check for leaks coming from fuel filter connections. The fuel line is spliced between two fuel lines.
Can a car stall with a bad throttle position sensor?
The engine can stall for no reason and without any warning. This happens when the TPS gives incorrect information to the ECM. The engine can stall at high speed, at low speed, or even at idle. A faulty throttle position sensor will not let your car accelerate normally. Though this doesn’t happen all the time.
Why does my transmission rpm keep climbing up?
It seems that the gears are slipping and causing the rpm’s to climb up. Check the transmission fluid and make sure that it’s full and red in color. Very dark red or black transmission fluid is an indication that the transmission is burning the fluid for getting too hot from either overloading or slipping gears.
Can a Mercedes-Benz have a transmission failure?
Very few Mercedes-Benz cars have had complete transmission failure and require transmission replacement. We see these transmission fail in rare cases when water enters the transmission via the oil cooling lines or the radiator on cars equipped with Valeo radiators.

Why does my car not go over 2K rpm?
In drive won’t go over 30mph & if rpms get to 2k sputters loses power badly. Replaced, IAC,tps, plugs, wires, throttle body, catalytic converter, ignition module, coil packs, fuel pump, filter. It’s like it’s in limp mode. Any help will be appreciated. My car has 140230 miles. My car has an automatic transmission. My car has 140988 miles.
What does it mean when your transmission is not shifting?
Q: transmission not shifting and the rpm’s keep climbing up. the transmission is not shifting properly, replaced both input and output speed sensors, but the rpms seem to be climbing high and the transmission does not seem to be shifting, gets up to speed fine, but the rpms just keep climbing on it… My car has 200000 miles.
What happens when the engine hits 2500 rpm?
The engine hits 2500 rpm and loses power but does not die. The idle point is high about 1500 when the fault initially happened then it creeped up over time to stay at 2000. The codes thrown are below. Some of these may be quite old since I never clear them out.
