Why is the bonnet handle on my Jaguar not opening?
Bonnet won’t open, plus bonnet handle (inside cabin) is ‘limp’. The cable ‘securing rings’ (part of the cable) won’t sit back in between their initial holding ‘fork’ of the bracket. So for now we can put them on top of the holding ‘fork’ of the bracket:

The n/s proved impossible to reach due to the black metal cover that acts as a ‘shroud’ around the entire catch. So, as my grill is a chrome mesh type (the original), we managed to carefully bend and push the N/S grill in enough to be able to then turn it and withdraw it out of the grill frame.

I AM NOT SUGGESTING YOU DO THAT but it did work. 7 people found this helpful. These hood releases on Jaguars seem to be a recurring problem. The cable has a sheath and core. Hold onto the sheath with some vice grips and pull at the wire core, this will snap open the hood hopefully, but the problem will still exist.

How do you test the bonnet cable release?
Now BEFORE you shut the bonnet, test the catches unlock from the cable handle inside the cabin. Gently pull the release handle inside the cabin and make sure both bonnet catches unlock. You’ll hear and see easily if someone else pulls the release handle whilst you watch closely.
How do you release the catch on a Jaguar?
Using a long flat-blade screwdriver (very long!), you should be able to apply pressure to the bonnet of the catch (shaped like a triangle) and push it towards the passenger side. Doing so should release that catch. The bonnet won’t just open now as we still need to do the same on the passenger side catch.
